well that last post was a roaring success.
one of the reasons that the phone answering dance stands out to me is because benedict cumberbatch plays such vastly different characters (van gogh vs sherlock vs guillam vs hawking) and he disappears into them so incredibly thoroughly that sometimes it feels like he can’t possibly be just one actor; surely there’s two or three actors who look exactly the same and go collectively by the name of benedict cumberbatch? contrasted with for example robert downey jr (who is basically ironman in real life and whose sherlock holmes is really merely a 19th century ironman) this is somewhat disconcerting.
it’s reassuring to discover that there are little mannerisms of benedict’s that stay constant. his “twiddling” with props also shows up in some other film of his, I’ve forgotten which.
